Almost all Australian small businesses can benefit from content marketing.

What most agencies won’t tell you is that you’re more than capable of creating and implementing your own content strategy – all you need is time and patience.

The simple truth is, whenever you’re producing new, innovative and useful content for your target audience, you’re increasing brand awareness and creating trust in the minds of consumers.

Awareness drives traffic, and generally, traffic will drive sales for any business.

It’s really that simple.

If you’ve ever seen an Aldi catalogue, for example, you’ll notice no small amount of space is devoted to recipes. Now, Aldi makes no immediate income from providing free recipes for readers – if anything, they’re paying extra when printing and design labour costs are considered.

So why bother going to all that effort? Just look at how much online real estate is being given to the recipe in this picture.

The trust and brand awareness created by readers seeing the Aldi logo every time they discover a new favourite recipe is worth thousands to Aldi.

When we think about it, it’s easy to see why – any consumer is more likely to shop with the store that’s guaranteed to have the ingredients for the new recipe they love; especially if it was the store that offered the recipe in the first place! Applied to the B2C service sector, the outcome is no different – the plumber offering free guides on how to fix common household plumbing problems will have a much easier time acquiring clients if simply for the fact that it’s his brand on the customer’s mind when they encounter a problem that takes more than a guided tutorial to fix.

Even this article that you’re reading now is an example of content marketing – my hope is that when your or someone you know’s business has expanded to the point where there just isn’t time to sit down twice a week and strategize about your marketing goals, you’ll consider and consult my firm and I to drive your traffic for you.

At Matthews Copywriting, we provide written content marketing services to time-poor small businesses across Australia (from our Perth base). We offer blog posts, product listings and general copywriting services for Aussie small business in the digital age. In what is already a bloated and predatory marketing industry, it seems ridiculous that Australian small businesses are expected to pay thousands for a custom marketing strategy that a business owner could make themselves with a pen and half an afternoon.
